A new smartphone app will serve to help people visiting Delaware find fun activities and other activities in the area. This can also be used by the residents themselves. The news of partnership with GeoSwap was given by the Delaware Tourism Office and State Parks during a conference on Tuesday. GeoSwap is a location-based mobile app.

Students from the University of Delaware Horn Program in Entrepreneurship are the brains behind GeoSwap. According to its makers, UD students Jason Bamford, Jordan Gonzalez and Keith Doggett, the idea came to them two years ago while they were in their dorms.

Bamford says that they are making the GeoSwap worthwhile for its users with the use of high-quality and reliable information. He claims that the partnership with State Parks and Visit Delaware will ensure this. He’s pleased that the state agencies are supporting them to come up with a viable product.

What to expect from the app? This will encourage and engage the visitors to check out locations, where they can also share their experiences, while navigating them to fun activities and events within their current location. Places will include skating rinks, beaches, farmers market, waterparks, and bike riding areas. Featured in the app’s pins are the logos of State Parks and Visit Delaware to highlight their partnership. The pins will be responsible in helping people find interesting events and locations.

Delaware Governor John Carney says that this is a perfect example of a small business, higher education, and government working together. Carney adds that innovation can drive tourism in the state and that entrepreneurship could have a key role in Delaware’s economy.

So far, GeoSwap creators consider the partnership their latest accomplishment. The app grabbed the first spot at Hen Hatch, which is a startup funding competition at the University of Delaware. Aside from this, GeoSwap was a finalist at the business plan competition, e-Fest in April.
